Benefits of Painting with Acrylics
I want to talk about the different types of paints, oil versus watercolor versus acrylics. One thing about acrylics is, it can be changed if you make a mistake, where with watercolor you can not lift the paint up or change it without running the risk of it becomming muddy or the paper became soaking wet. Watercolor, it is a wonderful medium, but if you do lay the paint down a lot of times you must be sure what you want to do.
Oil paint for example it is a great medium and you can mix the paint around, the only problem is the time that it takes to dry as it can take a few days and sometimes weeks before it is dries propperly. With acrylics they usually dry within a day and it will usually cure within 4-6 months before you can add something over it to protect it.
Another thing with acrylics that I like is that it is very forgiving. If you do make any kind of mistake you can paint over it and change it and that is really nice to do.
How to Choose Acrylic Paints
There are different kinds of acrylic paint where of you can choose between the student and the professional or Academy qulity. The Academy grade works very well. It does have a lot more pigment in it, where with the student grades you have less pigment in your paint, so you have to layer a lot more. Some with less pigment tend to be a little bit duller there for you have to think about the brilliance you want to achieve and how it will look after a couple of years.
With the more professional grades or with medium grades, you can achieve more vibrant colors and it will still look good after many years . I love this paint and I do love my Galleria and my Academy Acrylics. They have a smoothness to them too and they have a lot of pigment in them and they make your paintings much more brilliant.
